Guest Panelist - Caleen Jennings
Caleen Sinnette Jennings (Playwright) is associate professor of theater at The American University in Washington, D.C., where she teaches first and second level acting and playwriting courses, as well as academic courses in theater. She also directs for the main stage and writes and directs for two student performing companies. In 1993 she received a Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Meritorious Achievement Award for her direction of The Dining Room. Jennings’ play Casting Othello won the 1996 Washington Summer Theater Festival Award for Outstanding New Play and was produced with its companion piece, Playing Juliet, by The Source Theater Company and the Folger Library Theater in January 1998. Jennings won Washington’s Theater Lobby Award and The Source Theater’s H.D. Lewis Award and Literary Merit Award for her plays. She was a 1997 finalist for the Jane Chambers playwriting award, and a 1998 finalist for the Actors Theatre of Louisville 10-minute play competition. In 1995 alone, seven of her pieces were produced in the Washington metropolitan area. Sunday Dinner was published by Dramatic Publishing in 1993, and her collection of plays for young performers, A Lunch Line, was published by New Plays in 1989. Jennings is also a performer and a member of the acting faculty for the Teaching Shakespeare Institute of the Folger Shakespeare Library. She received a B.A. in theater from Bennington College and an M.F.A. in theater from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She is married and has two sons.

Dave / Paul Ballard
Paul Ballard (Dave) has played many comedic and dramatic roles over the years in the Maryland theatre community. He is thrilled to take part in this dramatic reading of these wonderful plays with this very talented cast. Paul wishes to thank the director Temple Fortson for this opportunity and is delighted to work with her once more after acting under her direction in MOTHERHOOD OUT LOUD at Artistic Synergy of Baltimore last May. Paul was seen last summer as Callahan in Beth Tfiloh Community Theatre’s August production of LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL. Favorite past roles include George Bailey in IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, Emile de Becque in SOUTH PACIFIC, Captain von Trapp in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, the Baker in INTO THE WOODS, Felix Ungar in THE ODD COUPLE, Sir Toby Belch in TWELFTH NIGHT, and Professor Bhaer in LITTLE WOMEN: THE MUSICAL. Paul thanks his wonderful wife, Jan Danek, for all her love and enduring support of his many theatrical endeavors.

Jimmy / Bryan Brown
Bryan Brown is excited to be performing in his second reading. He would like to thank Temple and Artistic Synergy of Baltimore for giving him the opportunity! He would also like to thank his fellow cast mates. Wendy / Angela Cava
Angela Cava (Wendy) is excited to return to Artistic Synergy of Baltimore after getting to be a part of ASOB's PIPPIN last season (Fastrada). Other credits: DAB's THE BMORE BROADWAY SHOW (featured main cast); HCLC's GODSPELL (ensemble); ST's 48-HOUR PLAY FESTIVAL: POST-MORTEM (Allie); JOB’s EVITA (Peron’s Mistress alternate/ensemble); HCST’s GUYS AND DOLLS (Hot Box dancer); and SS’ THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL (Sardine/featured dancer). You can usually find her surrounded by her snuggly dog, a crappy book, and at least three half-drunk beverages. She’d like to thank Temple, this talented cast, and her sweetie spouse Jeremiah.

Lorraine / Lydia West
Lydia West (Lorraine) loves being back on Artistic Synergy’s stage. A Baltimore/DMV actress and director, her favorite acting credits include THE MOUNTAINTOP (Camae - 2024 WATCH Awards nominee: Outstanding Lead Actress), HAMLET (Gertrude), STEEL MAGNOLIAS (Truvy), and AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’ (Charlaine). Her favorite directing credits include LIGHT (Baltimore Playwrights Festival, 2025), WAVERLY HALL (Artistic Synergy of Baltimore, 2025), and CAPTAIN HOOK: MY STORY, OR HOW I CLAWED MY WAY TO THE TOP (Artistic Synergy of Baltimore, 2022). She is a long-time board member for Artistic Synergy of Baltimore and theatre director at a Baltimore County high school. She's eternally grateful for the support of her husband, Scott, and son, Luke.

Chris / Gage Wright
Gage Wright (Chris) is excited to return to the Artistic Synergy of Baltimore stage. He is a relatively new addition to the Maryland theater scene, but he has had wonderful opportunities. Some favorite roles include: Clyde Barrow in BONNIE & CLYDE (Just Off Broadway); Jesus in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (Third Wall Productions); and Stacee Jaxx in ROCK OF AGES (Small Town Stars). Gage has only done a reading for a single straight play, and performed in 2 Shakespeare productions before as Lysander in Midsummer, and Laertes in Hamlet, so it is still new to him to not have music with his script but he hopes you enjoy Playing Juliet/Casting Othello!

Jacqueline Youm (Georgia) is thrilled to be portraying Georgia in Playing Juliet Casting Othello with Artistic Synergy of Baltimore. She is a Senegalese-American actor, lawyer, and language teacher.
